A DC Classic

A DC Classic

Well, it finally happened. After a few years of watching the angle that the Moon was rising, the time it would break the horizon, the percentage of cloud cover, and what phase the moon was in, I finally managed to have one night when everything was perfect.

The result, a classic DC postcard shot, but I have been trying to take it for a while and I was thrilled… Continue reading

Moonrise Over the Sculpture Garden

Moonrise Over the Sculpture Garden

As a beautiful day of beer, wine, cheese and jazz at the Sculpture Garden winded down, I noticed that the clouds to the East were nowhere near as thick as the ones to the West.
Usually, I will know what phase the Moon is in, but this night was at the end of a rather busy week and I had no idea what our satellite was doing. Little did I know… Continue reading

To all Veterans

To all Veterans

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day here in the US, so I’m going to do a wreath laying crawl with my camera starting at 8, but I wanted to leave my tribute to those who sacrifice their lives to fight in far away places defending their country.

History was my favorite subject in school and is still something I read about all the time (it’s probably the subject I’ve read the… Continue reading

Gateway to the Netherworld

Ok, maybe it won’t take you to the center of the Earth, but I just thought this looked like the kind of place where a prudent person would not insert any body parts into… Continue reading

Camera Milestone

After 4+ years, my little camera (ok, maybe not little) has reached 30.000 snaps.

Would I like to trade it in for a full frame 5D? Hell Yes.

Am I happy with it now, being so reliable in so many different conditions, helping me capture so many great images? Bigger Hell Yes!

So to commemorate the milestone, I treated the camera to a little fall shooting.
And… Continue reading

Still at Rock Creek Park

Last one at Rock Creek Park (at least until the next visit).
Kept this one for last because I kept trying to get a better shot of it, but the weather has been terrible still, so no luck so far… Continue reading

Rock Creek Park during the Fall

Rock Creek Park during the Fall

The leaves are simply amazing right now at Rock Creek Park.

The weather has been extra crappy the last week (today is a gorgeous combination of 18% and 75% gray in the sky – lovely), but I managed to get this one during a break in the crappiness… Continue reading

The Loneliness of the Long Falling Leaf

The Loneliness of the Long Falling Leaf

Ok, pathetic attempt at the title.

But, that aside, I just loved this leaf when I spotted it and had to take a picture of it. One of the best things about Fall are the all the colors, just lying around waiting to be photographed. Ah, how I love the Fall… Continue reading
